SAN ANTONIO -- Churchill, MacArthur and Roosevelt High Schools in the North East Independent School District were labeled academically unacceptable Monday by the Texas Education Agency.
The rating is the lowest issued by TEA.
North East ISD officials said they plan to appeal the rating.
"It's not enough just to appeal," said NEISD spokeswoman Laura Calderon. "We're going to do something about the performance, as well. We know who the students are who didn't perform well, and we will target those students and make sure they will work individually with their teachers."
Highlands and Sam Houston High Schools in the San Antonio School District also received unacceptable ratings, as did John F. Kennedy High School in the Edgewood Independent School District.
Tejeda Junior Academy in the Harlandale Independent School District and Southside Middle School in the Southside Independent School District also landed on the unacceptable list.
The ratings are based mostly on standardized tests students take called the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, or TAKS. High school completion rates and middle school dropout rates also are factored into the equation.
