New STEM formation school coming to NISD

Jones Middle School selected for new campus

SAN ANTONIO – The Northside Independent School District is getting its own STEM formation school.

STEM, which stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics, is coming to Jones Middle School.

The district's superintendent discussed how the STEM formation program will impact some of its staff and students.

NISD has partnered with Discovery Education, USAA and the Texas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development to introduce the new program, and educators said they're very excited.

The superintendent said they will be able to teach middle schoolers to be job-ready upon graduation so they can start a career that pays well.

Jones Middle School was selected as one of eight area public schools to launch the new program.

“There are things that we will be able to teach middle school kids that once they go through some of our high school programs, will be job-ready upon graduation,” Superintendent Brian Woods said. “Once they walk the stage, they'll go immediately to a good-paying job in the San Antonio area, and that's a goal for all of us."

Woods said the goal is to expand the program to more schools in the future.
