Trinity University hands over Twitter account to students

Two students given control of social media keys for a week

SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University for the first time gave control of its official Twitter account to students.

The goal is to provide a window into the life of a student. The day-in, day-out tasks of waking up, attending classes, studying and hanging out with friends.

The tweets tell a tale of the end of summer by "Wearing all black to mourn summer and being well-rested" and the futility of solving dorm room bedhead, tweeting "Fun fact. It's the second day of class and we've already given up on looking put together."

Dormitory roommates Hannah-Elyse Konyecsni and Lauren Pettinati admit most of their social time involves social media.

When Trinity University tweeted a joke about two roommates stealing ice cream, Lauren threw Hannah under the bus by jokingly making fun of her for being a former vegan.

The school thought the ensuing back and forth was so funny, the girls were given control of the official Twiiter account.

In a day and age where social media faux pas are common, the administration of a campus of 2,500 students said it understands the idea is a leap of faith.

"We trust them and we basically said, 'Don't do anything illegal, don't get me fired," University Marketing and Communications Director Michelle Bartonico said.

For the past three days, the two have showcased school performances and guest lecturers.

With control of the Twitter keys until Wednesday, there's still room for banter.

Konyecsni described how her emotional nature made her cry over a Tweet recently.

Pettinati gets ribbed by her friend for being clumsy.

When KSAT 12 asked Twitter users what they think of the move, @DanielDahlinger wrote "crazy" followed by three crying emoticons.
