POSTED: Thursday, October 5, 2006

"Charlie's Angels" star Farrah Fawcett is battling cancer, according to several media reports.

Entertainment Tonight reported Fawcett released a statement saying, "Please respect my privacy at this challenging time."

The 59-year-old actor, who graced the walls of several teenagers' bedrooms in the 70s in her famous red bathing suit, reportedly recently had surgery to remove a tumor from her lower intestine, according to a press release.

Fawcett recently appeared at the Emmy Awards with both of her "Charlie's Angels" co-stars, Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson. The Aug. 27 appearance was the first time in years all three actors appeared at a public event together.

In recent years, Fawcett has kept busy with several projects. She appeared on Comedy Central's roast of William Shatner. She starred in the 2004 film "The Cookout," and "Dr T and the Women" in 2000. Before that, she appeared in TV shows such as "Spin City" and "Ally McBeal."

Fawcett had a longtime relationship with actor Ryan O'Neal, with whom she shares a son, Redmond O'Neal. Before that, she was married to actor Lee Majors.

Fawcett attended the University of Texas at Austin, and has a college degree in Microbiology, according to Internet Movie Data Base.
