Stan Lee Thrilled Over Becoming Action Figure

Comic Book Icon Becoming Marvel Legend

POSTED: Thursday, July 12, 2007

Stan Lee is considered a legend by creating such Marvel comic book characters as Spider-Man, the Hulk and the Fantastic Four. And finally, he's going to be joining the ranks of his creations as an action figure.

Lee is becoming a seven-inch tall action figure in Hasbro's Marvel Legends line as an exclusive at ComicCon International later this month in San Diego.

After months of speculation and photographs of it surfacing on the Internet, Hasbro recently confirmed the Lee figure, and the Marvel Comics icon couldn't be any happier.

"Oh, man, I'm so excited," Lee told @ The Movies' Tim Lammers during a recent interview. "It was mentioned to me about a year or two ago that people were thinking of producing it. I said, 'Hey, great,' and I forgot all about it!"

The "Marvel Legends Stan Lee" figure, as it is officially titled, comes in special packaging that, when opened, reveals a marvelous bonus: accessories that help turn Lee into Spider-Man.

Underneath Lee's blue jacket and khaki pants is a Spidey outfit, and you can even swap out Lee's head for Peter Parker's.

Hasbro, which produced the piece, said that if there is remaining inventory from ComicCon, it's possible that the figure will be sold on its Web site, HasbroToyShop.com.

The 84-year-old Lee most recently appeared in "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," which brings one of his favorite Marvel co-creations with illustrator Jack Kirby -- The Silver Surfer -- to the big screen for the first time.

The film has made $125 million in North America and an additional $98 million overseas since its release in June.

The high visibility of the Silver Surfer certainly had to be on Lee's mind when pondering one possible improvement to his Marvel Legends action figure.

"It could have been better if it were in solid silver or something," Lee said with a laugh. "Just plastic? Oh, I don't know."
