Tejano Musicians Raise Money For Emilio's Band

Members of the local Tejano music community got together Wednesday night for a jam session to raise money for Emilio Navaira and Grupo Rio.

Navaira and his bandmates were injured in an Easter Sunday bus crash following a show just outside of Houston, and members of his band are having trouble making ends meet without their frontman.

"We all lost our jobs, Emilio was our boss," said Raulito Navaira, the singer's brother and bandmate. "Without him, we don't have a band. They just want to take care of him and try to help us out.

"Life goes on and the bills don't go away."

Tejano fans also got a meet-and-greet with area Tejano musicians after the live music session at Sam Ash Music on the city's north side.

Meanwhile, his brother's condition is improving daily. Navaira said his brother now has motion in all his limbs and has tried to get out of bed. Once doctors clear up fluid in his lungs, Navaira said, the Tejano star should be transferred out of the intensive care unit.
