SA Opera's New Season Includes Andrea Bocelli

SAN ANTONIO -- Local opera fans learned they will have a chance to see one of music's biggest performers this season as the San Antonio Opera released its schedule for the 2008-09 season.

Italian opera star Andrea Bocelli is expected to perform in the Alamo City on Nov. 25 and 26, according to opera officials.

"He's one of the most recognizable people in the world of music with a voice that separates his style of performance from any other," SA Opera spokesman Mark Richter said.

Bocelli's is just one of the performances opera officials announced Friday. Other major performances scheduled include Georges Bizet's Carmen and Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado.

Tickets go on sale Monday and opera officials expect the pair of Bocelli performances to sell out fast.
