SAN ANTONIO -- Tejano star Emilio Navaira was in stable condition Sunday night after he underwent brain surgery at a undisclosed hospital in San Antonio.
According to Navaira's brother, Raul, the singer was admitted to the hospital several days ago after they noticed swelling on the side of his head.
Shortly after Emilio was admitted, he underwent surgery to remove a bone and treat an infection in the area.
Raul Navaira said that his brother was alert Sunday and that Emilio was more concerned about missing the Dallas Cowboys game against the Pittsburgh Steelers than his surgery.
Raul Navaira said that Emilio was making good progress in his recovery from head trauma he suffered in a bus crash near Houston on Easter Sunday.
"He was fine," Raul Navaira said. "He was already starting to run. (He would) jog a mile, mile and a half a day."
But a few weeks ago, Raul Navaira noticed something wasn't right with his brother.
"You could tell he was getting weaker and there were some days he didn't want to run," he said.
Raul Navaira said despite the setback, he, his family and Emilio's fans haven't lost faith that the singer is going to make a complete recovery.
"There's not a day that I don't go anywhere. To the store to put gas, where ever I have to go. Someone is always there saying, 'We're praying for your brother, we're praying for your family.' And it just feels so good," Navaira said.
