SAN ANTONIO -- Tejano music star Emilio Navaira was charged with drunken driving early Monday in connection with a one-vehicle rollover.

According to a police report, Navaira was exiting Loop 410 south onto Interstate 35 south at 1:44 a.m. when his vehicle veered off the access road, hit a drainage ditch and rolled.

Navaira suffered minor bumps and bruises.

The report said the musician had slurred speech and his breath smelled of alcohol.

"It was pretty scary," Navaira said in an interview with KSAT 12 News after being released from jail on $3,500 bond. "I'm glad I survived and glad to be OK. Hopefully, I learned my lesson."

Navaira has a previous DWI arrest and a charge of resisting arrest on his record but he is not on probation for either offense.
