5 cocktails you can make at home

Bar owner Jeret Pena shows us how to make craft cocktails

SAN ANTONIO - As Cocktail Conference begins this week there are certain craft cocktails you can make at home. 

Jeret Pena, owner of The Last Word and The Brooklynite, showed us five cocktails that can be made at home with only a few ingredients.

Old Fashioned

Recipe:

2 oz rye whisky 

.25 oz simple syrup

3 dashes of angostura 

- Add simple syrup and angostura first, the pour in whiskey. 

- Add only 2 ice cubes first and stir. 

- Two ice cubes will dilute the drinks. Remove the ice cubes after 15 seconds of stirring and add new ice cubes and stir again. 

- Top with an orange peel.

Last Word

Recipe:

3/4 oz gin

3/4 oz green chartreuse 

3/4 oz maraschino liqueur 

3/4 oz lime juice

- Shake all ingredients and pour into cocktail glass.

French 75

Recipe:

1 oz gin or brandy

1/2 oz lemon juice

1/2 of simple syrup 

- Shake all ingredients and pour into champagne glass

- Top with champagne & lemon peel.

Brooklynite

Recipe:

2 oz dark rum 

3/4 oz lime juice

3/4 oz honey syrup 

2 dashes of angostura

- Shake and serve in a cocktail glass.

Printers Alley

Recipe: 

1 oz applejack 

3/4 oz aperol

3/4 oz sweet vermouth 

1 dash of pink peppercorn oil

- Stir all products together in a pint glass and pour into a rocks glass filled with ice.
