Rosita Fernandez, who once entertained presidents and royalty and shared the big screen with John Wayne, died Tuesday at the age of 88.

Fernandez was surrounded by family when she passed away at a local hospice care facility.

She was known as San Antonio's First Lady Of Song, a title bestowed upon her by Lady Bird Johnson, who loved Fernandez' music.

A musical ambassador, Fernandez' soft Boleros and Rancheras told of love's joy and heartache.

She entertained presidents from the U.S. and Mexico, as well as royalty. Fernandez also shared the big screen with John Wayne in "The Alamo."

For 26 years, Fernandez was a fixture at the Arneson River Theater, which is why the bridge there was named after her.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
