SAN ANTONIO -

Yee haw! Y’all, it’s country night on “Dancing With The Stars: All-Stars!” Not only do the top eight couples perform, there’s also a team dance. First, a performance from Little Big Town and the DWTS Troupe. Then, since no couples were eliminated last week, a look at the leaderboard:

  • Sabrina & Louis – 58.5 points
  • Gilles & Peta – 56.5 points
  • Melissa & Tony – 56.5 points
  • Shawn & Derek – 56.5 points
  • Apolo & Karina – 56.5 points
  • Emmitt & Cheryl – 56 points
  • Kirstie & Maks – 52.5 points
  • Kelly & Val – 51.5 points

Saddle up! It’s time to get this ho-down on the dance floor!

COUPLE: Gilles & Peta
DANCE: Cha Cha Cha

All the stars are performing solos during these dances. Gilles is wearing a see-through shirt and shiny black pants. I’m not sure what that’s about. This seemed like a line dance at times, then got hippy. I’m so confused. Not sure it was necessary for Peta to bend over and let Gilles smack her on the backside. Gilles didn’t seem too lost in his solo. I watched this a second time without the music and liked it more.

Len said Gilles gives 100% and under control at all times. Bruno was only apparently only able to focus on Gilles’s shiny pants. Then, he stood up and danced and called Gilles a performer. He said the footwork wasn’t as clean as it could have been but the performance was good. Carrie Ann thanked Gilles for picking her up last week. She said the dance was sexy and appropriate. She said Gilles needs to watch his hands – T. Rex hands. Close your eyes and picture that.

SCORE: 27.5

COUPLE: Sabrina & Louis
DANCE: Rumba

Sabrina’s drawing on her past (she had a boyfriend who was addicted to drugs) for this dance. Sabrina started with her solo. Once she was with Louis, it was near perfection. Sabrina’s lines were pretty spectacular! This might have been her best dance ever!

Bruno said it was a sumptuous sequence of intriguing shape. He said the dance had an emotional thread. Bruno said Sabrina’s solo was magic. Carrie Ann hugged Sabrina. Bruno hugged Len. She said it was beautiful. She said Sabrina was dancing from her heart and it gave her chills. Len said he loved that the music was soft and quiet and the dance was soft at times, then full on and strong. He said it was fantastic.

SCORE: 30

COUPLE: Kelly & Val
DANCE: Tango

Kelly’s dance started with her solo. Kelly sometimes seemed a bit unsteady. In fact, it sometimes looked like Val was carrying her across the floor. Maybe it was the giant puffs of fabric on her shoulders, but it even looked like Kelly was getting a bit hunchy in the back area. Their kiss at the end was believable.

Carrie Ann said it was a nice comeback. She said it was an ambitious dance. Len said it was a little bit hectic, but Kelly kept it under control. He said she had a little bit of trouble with her neck. Bruno used all kinds of adjectives. He said Kelly is back in the game, but needs to watch her top line.

SCORE: 27

COUPLE: Melissa & Tony
DANCE: Viennese Waltz

Melissa’s neck is still bothering her. OOOH! This dance starts by a campfire! Then, Melissa does her solo. It’s lovely – like her neck isn’t bothering her anymore! Once she and Tony danced together, they were perfection! There might have been a lift (don’t tell Carrie Ann I saw Melissa’s feet come off the floor). Wow!

Len gave Melissa a standing ovation. He said she had great technique – she had the how and the wow. Bruno said Melissa’s solo was exquisite. He said it was like love in the great outdoors. Carrie Ann did spy the lift. She said Melissa has the most beautiful lines, but Melissa’s not dancing “out” enough. Bruno argued about expressing things in different ways. Carrie Ann argued something about women’s intuition. I don’t know. They were talking over each other too much.

SCORE: 29.5 (Carrie Ann gave them a 9.5)

COUPLE: Shawn & Derek
DANCE: Cha Cha Cha

Derek noticed something wrong with Shawn during rehearsals. Shawn hurt her knee rehearsing the team dance last week. It’s the same injury that kept her out of the Olympics. Derek said they might have to change the choreography to get Shawn through the dance. This started with moves that I wouldn’t do now – I don’t know how Shawn is doing them with a hurt knee. She’s hopping so much, I’m getting sympathy pains for her. I’m not sure how much cha cha was happening here, but this was fun!

Bruno said “forget about the tractor, you are the sexy one!” Then, he stood up and did some hip stuff. He liked the fusion of country steps with cha cha cha. He said the dance was incredible. Carrie Ann said it was great how they fused the two styles together. She said Shawn finishes every single move. She thought the solo was a little stiff. Len said the choreography was fantastic, the movement was brilliant. He told Derek there were too many gimmicks. He didn’t like the tractor and cow. Derek said next week’s dance is for Len.

SCORE: 28 (Bruno gave it a 10)

COUPLE: Kirstie & Maks
DANCE: Rumba

There was a lot of arguing in their rehearsals. BTW – Kirstie looks pretty great! When she dances, I almost forget she’s 60! She seems a little more flexible. Her solo seemed a bit needy. That’s probably what she was going for. Not bad. Not bad at all.
