Can Johnny Depp's 'Pirates 5' find gold this Memorial Day weekend?

Disney film to compete with 'Alien: Covenant', 'Guardians' and 'Baywatch'

SAN ANTONIO – Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is looking to find box office gold over the four-day Memorial weekend.

Early estimates project that Pirates 5 could make more than $80 million for the four-day weekend. The latest movie is the fifth film in the series with actor Johnny Depp returning as title character Captain Jack Sparrow.

Depp however is looking for his first breakout hit since his last pirates movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" back in 2011. The actor's career has been marked by recent flops such as Tim Burton's "Dark Shadows" and 2013's "The Lone Ranger".

The film cost Disney more than $200 million to make before marketing and is counting on a huge attendance overseas.

The first four movies have made more than $3.7 billion total for Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

Starring alongside Depp in Pirates 5 are actors Javier Bardem, Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush.
