DALLAS, Texas – The State Fair of Texas starts Sept. 30 and fair officials have already announced the finalists for the 2016 Big Tex Choice Awards.

Previous winners include Fernie’s Holy Moly Carrot Cake Roly, Fried Gulf Shrimp Boil, and Deep-Fried Cuban Roll in the best taste category.

Past winners for the most creative category include the Smoky Bacon Margarita, State Fair Brew – Funnel Cake Ale, and Fried Thanksgiving Dinner.

The best tasting and most creative foods for this year are:

  • Caribbean Pineapple Korn-a-copia
  • Deep-Fried Bacon Burger Dog Slider on a Stick
  • Deep-Fried Pulled Pork “FUNYUN” Dings
  • Fernie’s Down Home Chicken Pot Pie Pocket with Mac ‘n Cheese Dip
  • Fried Jell-O
  • Injectable Great Balls of BBQ
  • Southern Fried Chicken & Dumplins
  • State Fair Cookie Fries

The Korn-a-Copia is a pineapple half shell filled with Caribbean fried rice, marinated grilled chicken, and shrimp with a tropical salsa and pineapple rum glaze.

Injectable Great Balls of BBQ are made of beef brisket formed into a ball shape, that is breaded and then deep-fried. Each order is served with a pipette of barbecue sauce that is used to inject the brisket ball.
