Mmm ... Star Wars Day, it is

May the Fourth be with you

Wednesday is the unofficial day fans have dubbed Star Wars day.

For those who don’t know, the grassroots campaign that started the holiday comes from “May the fourth be with you,” a play on words from the popular Star Wars quote “may the Force be with you.”

This will be the first time in 10 years that fans can watch a new episode of Star Wars on May 4, after Episode VII's release in December 2015.

Good news for fans of the franchise: More movies are on the way.

Episode VIII is currently filming and has a tentative Dec. 15, 2017, release date. Episode IX is in preproduction and is scheduled to release sometime in May 2019.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures also has plans to release several anthology films.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is coming to the big screen in December. The film is set in the Star Wars realm just before the events of “Episode IV: A New Hope” and will focus on rebel spies on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star.

Use the hashtag #Maythefourth on Instagram or Twitter and see how San Antonio and the nation are celebrating.

The seven Star Wars films have a total of 27 Academy Award nominations with seven wins, six of which were for the first installment ever released, “Episode IV: A New Hope.”
