Big events to be held in San Antonio during St. Patrick's Day weekend

Big League Weekend, Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair this weekend

SAN ANTONIO – The downtown San Antonio area is expected to be packed with large crowds for several events during St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Here’s a look at what’s going on and where.

Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair: 

Close to 100,000 people are expected to visit Market Square for the Texas Talent Musicians Association's fan fair.

The fair runs from Thursday to Sunday night and features five stages with more than 200 bands. 

Some of the more well known bands scheduled to perform include Flaco Jimenez, La Tropa F, Raulito Navaira and Tony Guerrero y La Sombra. Click here for more information. 

Murphy’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival:

Part of the River Walk will be transformed this weekend for the Murphy’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival in downtown San Antonio.

A little more than two miles of the San Antonio River is dyed green and decorated with more than a dozen floats filled with bagpipes and drummers.

Irish step dancers, music, green beer, drinks and food will all be part of the festivities.

The parade route goes from the Homewood Suites to the Arneson Theatre.

The festival will be held Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. Click here for more information.

Big League Weekend at Alamodome:

Major League Baseball Spring Training returns to San Antonio with Big League Weekend at the Alamodome. 

The Texas Rangers will face the defending American League champions Cleveland Indians Friday and Saturday.

This is the fifth year San Antonio has hosted Big League Weekend. A fan fest will be set up for people in attendance.

There will also be a hot dog eating contest and a pair of concerts after both games. Smash Mouth will perform Friday night and Los Lonely Boys will hit the stage Saturday night. Click here for more information.

South Texas Blues Fest at Tobin Center:

The Tobin Center will be the spot for some of best blues music across the state this Saturday.

Artists from all over the Lone Star State will perform at the South Texas Blues Fest. 

Blues artists scheduled to perform include The Eastside Kings, Andrea Dawson, the blues harmonica player known as Birdlegg and guitar legend Carl Weathersby. Click here for more information.

Bark in the Park - Perrito Grito at Rosedale Park:

People looking to avoid the downtown crowds can check out Bark in the Park- Perrito Grito with their four-legged family member.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rosedale Park.
