'The Bachelor' Blog: Ben H. returns for second chance at love

Sparks fly as new batch of women swoon latest bachelor

Ben Higgins is back and now it’s his turn to call the shots.

“Bachelor” nation fell in love with Ben during last season of “The Bachelorette.” Hearts everywhere broke with him when Kaitlyn Bristowe sent him home.

I have to be honest, and I realize this may spark an uproar among Ben lovers, but I haven’t always been a huge fan. Now don’t get me wrong, he was definitely the good guy, but I didn’t always see the fireworks in his eyes. But that all changed during Monday night’s premiere.

Night one is all about the first impressions, and I think Ben made a lasting one. His sincerity shined through as he showed us around his hometown of Warsaw, Indiana. It was clear he loved his family and had strong values.

Okay, enough about the bachelor.  Let’s get to the juicy stuff.

One of the most entertaining parts of night one is the limo introductions.
For those of you not familiar with the show, this is when he meets the ladies for the first time.

Here are the some of the entrances I found most memorable:

Caila: Jumped into his arms … in her dress
Lace: Popped the first kiss on him … and yes he turned bright red
Shushanna: Greeted him in a foreign language
Joelle “JoJo”:  Walked out of the limo in a unicorn head.  That’s right, a costume unicorn head.
Mandi:  Arrived with a giant rose on her head.  She then told him he could “pollinate” it later.
Haley and Emily:  One word, twins.  Let’s just say Ben was left speechless.
Maegan:  Skipped the limo and walked up to Ben with a mini-horse.
Isabel:  Walked out in a onesie and told Ben she needed to know if he was the onesie for her.

After the introductions, it was time for the cocktail party and a bombshell.

You know it wouldn’t be “The Bachelor” if there weren’t any surprises.  Enter Becca and Amber.  (You may recall they were on Chris Soules’ season of “The Bachelor.”)

I loved seeing them step out of the limo because you knew that meant they were about to shake things up.  When they walked into the “Bachelor” mansion the other ladies tried to keep brave faces, but you could feel them fuming.

At the end of the cocktail party, Ben gave Olivia the first impression rose.

Now comes the hard part, the rose ceremony. The search for love ended for four women who were sent home.

Then Lace pulled Ben aside. Despite getting the final rose of the night, she was still frustrated because she didn’t think he looked at her enough during the rose ceremony. Ben tried to reassure her. But you guessed it, time to cue the crazy!

Here are my top five picks this season:

  • Lauren B.
  • Olivia
  • Caila
  • Amanda
  • Becca

Don’t miss a minute of the romance! You can catch “The Bachelor” Monday nights at 7 p.m. on KSAT 12.
