Local ingredients a big key to success of pizza joint

Flavor Favs: Il Forno

SAN ANTONIO – Neapolitan style pizza is what customers get when visiting Il Forno, located at 122 Nogalitos, but there is so much more to the pizza.

The main focus is local and sustainability.

"We focus on local ingredients," chef Jason Garcia said. "I'm picking up food from farmer's markets and local farmers every week."

The building itself also has a special touch to it. A lot of the materials used to construct the restaurant were found in and around the neighborhood.

Pallets and wood used from a house that had been demolished  make up tables and the bar top.

Il Forno will also start a community garden, and students from nearby schools will be helping with it.

"We will grow produce not just for us, but for people in the neighborhood, too" Garcia said.

The semi-casual pizza joint may be a new experience for some, but it's a welcome environment for all in San Antonio.

"Just come in and get yourself some pizza, a glass of wine or a beer and enjoy some time with your friends," Garcia said.
