SAN ANTONIO -- A recipient met the family of the organ donor who saved his life, and the meeting was a first for the University of Texas Health Science Center's Tissue Bank.
Dr. Bill Burge said he wouldn't be here today if hadn't been for Jim Anderson's son, who became an organ donor on his 18th birthday.
Shortly after, the teen was involved in a fatal accident. Thanks to his gift, Burge had surgery to replace diseased heart valves.
"I've been able to be as involved in sports as I've liked and not have to worry about a life of taking medicine," Burge said.
"Our son saved a doctor and the doctor's saving other lives, so what a way to go," Anderson said.
