SAN ANTONIO -- The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center called on donors Friday to help replenish supplies that were sent to the Fort Hood area in the aftermath of a fatal mass shooting at the Central Texas post.
When Michelle Island found out how she could help the victims, she quickly went to the center and rolled up her sleeve.
"The least I can do is take two hours out of my day to help them," Island said.
Bob Pollom also didn't hesitate to be a donor when heard there was a shortage.
"If mine (donation) goes there or if it doesn't, it's fulfilling a need, and that's what's important," he said.
Island and Pollom said that the process is painless and hope others will consider donating.
Christie Cardenas of the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center said in addition to platelets, O negative blood is in great demand.
"Blood centers around the Fort Hood area have sent their blood supplies to help with the victims, so we're trying to help those communities as well as our community here," she said.
