SAN ANTONIO -- For the first time in its history, the Northside Independent School District will beginning vaccinating its students against the H1N1 flu virus.
The district will soon receive ample supplies of the vaccine that should be enough to vaccinate close to 92,000 students at 104 different schools.
"It's going to take us at least four months to do all the vaccinations, but again it's our best guess," said NISD spokesman Pascual Gonzalez. "We just don't know the number of children that will turn out with parental permission to get their shots."
The district will send notices and permission slips Nov. 30. Vaccinations will be administered starting Dec. 3. Middle school students will be first to be vaccinated.
The vaccine will be provided to qualified students at no cost. Kids with severe asthma, those who need to be restrained and those without permission slips will not be vaccinated, Gonzalez said.
The district is in need of volunteers who are licensed to administer shots and to help administer the vaccine.

district's Web site.
