SAN ANTONIO -- Her name is Ada Roppola. But that's all the staff at Baptist Medical Center know about her, and that's because her name was on her wrist band.Roppola, who hospital officials believe is about 80 years old, based on her appearance, came from a nursing home in New Orleans, but which one is unclear.
Doctors believe Roppola, who is unable to talk, may have suffered a stroke. She arrived in San Antonio from the hurricane-ravaged region dehydrated and malnourished.Roppola is now doing much better, but the real challenge facing Baptist Hospital System officials is finding her relatives."She deserves ... to be with family," said Dr. Edwardo Uribe, a physician who has seen his patient load dramatically increase since evacuees arrived in San Antonio.Uribe, hospital staff and the Red Cross are also trying to help locate family for Javette Vinge, another patient from New Orleans."I don't know where they are," Vinge said. "They're trying to find them."Vinge may be far from home but she said she's grateful for the care she's receiving."Everybody is very, very, very, nice," she said.Baptist Hospital System officials said they have admitted more than 200 patients this week alone.
