The Metropolitan Health District confirmed on Wednesday that one person has died from a case of Legionnaire’s disease, KSAT 12 News reported.

Another case was also reported, and neither was acquired in a hospital, according to health officials.

A 70-year-old south side woman who had a pre-existing condition died from the disease.

The second case involved a 48-year-old Medina County man who will likely be released from a hospital in the next couple of days.

This year has been abnormal for the spread of the disease, health district officials told KSAT 12 News. There have been 15 reported cases in 2006, with five resulting in deaths.

The most recent cases are not connected with the eight cases reported at North Central Baptist Hospital, which has since made changes to its hot water system, the apparent cause of the disease.
