SCHERTZ, Texas – The city of Schertz is teaming up with Gencure on Monday to host a bone marrow donation registration drive.
The event is in honor of Aaron Brady, the husband and father of two who was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia earlier this year.
Schertz is encouraging adults between 18 and 44 to sign up and save a life.
Registration only takes about 10 minutes, but Gencure says the effects can be life-changing.

"There's two ways to donate. The most common way is very similar to a platelet or plasma donation, so it's very non-invasive," Adriana Estrada, Gencure spokesperson, said. "You can help save a life by doing something as easy as a cheek swab, and it can be as easy as donating blood."
Each year, more than 14,000 people are in need of marrow transplants, but nearly 70 percent of them never find a match.
Bone marrow transplants assist those battling leukemia, lymphoma, sickle-cell anemia and other disorders.
Registration will take place at the Schertz family YMCA from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
