Daughter enters Holiday Helper contest to help parents with debt burden

Parents receive $1,000 check to pay off debt

SAN ANTONIO – Raquel Guzman decided to enter the KSAT 12 Holiday Helper contest to give back to parents who would never accept money or presents.

To help brighten their holiday, KSAT 12 presented the family with a $1,000 check to pay off an outstanding debt to get them back on their feet.

“I try to help them as much as I can. And during the holiday season, I know that we needed extra money for gifts, and I just wanted to help them as much as I could,” Guzman said. “They’re constantly helping people. They help me out when I need anything, and I wanted to help them out by trying to pay one of their bills.

Guzman said each month, she puts money into her parent's checking account, so they'd be able to afford groceries and their bills.

The money from KSAT 12's Holiday Helper is a way to ease the burden of the family so that the Guzmans can take care of other holiday expenses.

KSAT 12 and our community sponsors are teaming up this season to give back to those who have kept alive the spirit of giving all throughout the holidays, as part of our Holiday Helper campaign.

The KSAT 12 Community partners include Security Service Federal Credit Union, Corner Store and University Health System.
