The Lone Star State's finest poured creative cocktails and prepared palatable bites for the San Antonio Cocktail Conference's Texas Spirits Night at the Pearl Brewery.

The setting: the Pearl Stables, where a veritable round table of spirits ambassadors presented their offerings.

Among them, our favorites of the evening: the Tequila Mockingbird featuring Kinky Friedman's own Man In Black Tequila and the Fruiteria's Cucumber Martini. Honestly, we don't know which one was tastier. And honorable mention: the Colorado Bulldog with Mexican Coke, cream, and coffee.

Also among the highlights of the evening, Arcade Midtown Kitchen's cured salmon on a tortilla chip with jalapeno and cream cheese; Fruiteria's shredded chicken on a tiny, thick corn tortilla; and Bakery Lorraine's Cosmopolitan and Ranger Creek Bourbon/tobacco macarons.

The bartenders at Austin's own Waterloo gin provided a refreshing mint julep, while Red River Whiskey of Frisco poured up a spirited "Red Star" with amaro, anise, and lemon juice.

The crowd swayed to the stylings of The Rick Cavender Band, as the Deep Eddy girls made a special appearance on stage. Deep Eddy's vodka/jalapeno cocktail also hit a high note.

Tomorrow night: the Stroll on Houston Street. I will be at Bohanan's Bar and courtyard and overlooking the River Walk at L?ke starting 6 p.m.
