Leslie's Diary: Monday May 7
It feels like forever since I've written in my diary! So much has happened - and in such a short time - it seems I have no free time! Not that I'm complaining - my life is wonderful! It's great to be alive!!
I had the pleasure of being on the "Oprah Winfrey Show" last Thursday. The Friday before the show, a producer and camera crew followed me around for the day. They used that footage along with my series footage to put together a taped piece on me.
What a wonderful job they did. I watched it in disbelief saying "are they talking about me??" I'm not sure I deserve all this kindness everyone has been showing me, but I sure do appreciate it!
I anchored the 5 p.m. news on Wednesday, left for the airport afterward. My husband and I flew to Chicago, arrived at midnight and were up at 6 a.m. getting ready for Oprah!
A limo (Wow!) picked us up at the hotel and drove us to the show, where I was on stage with Oprah for a 9 a.m. live show!!! She was wonderful. Like Diane Sawyer, she was genuine, kind, warm and inspiring!
After the show, it was back on a plane (they upgraded us to first class - Wow again!), and back home in time to anchor the 5 and 6 p.m. news! That was neat because we air Oprah at 4 p.m., and there I was on Oprah, and then back here in good ole S.A. to anchor at KSAT!
I brought home some footage of the show and the conversation that happened behind the scenes. We'll run that Thursday at 5 and 6 p.m.
My hair just keeps on growing!! I think it's getting darker and darker, but I love it!!! I also like it short. Maybe not quite this short, but I'll probably stick with short hair now! That is something I never would have even considered before. The feedback has been tremendous since I tossed the wig. Everyone has been so encouraging. Thank you for all your support!!!
I started taking Tamoxifen one week ago. So far, nothing. I'm having hot flashes, but I was already having those ever since my third chemo! I've had letters from women who say they gained a ton of weight - and I'm hoping I don't - but it's too early to tell. I'm working out 4 to 5 times a week at a gym near my house, and I feel better than ever!
I did find a small lump in my right breast a couple of weeks ago. We (my doctors and I) doubt it's anything to worry about, but we aren't going to take any chances! I'm having surgery this Friday to have it removed and tested! I'm not scared or freaked out about it. I have wonderful doctors who are aggressive, and I know even if it turns out to be cancer, I will have caught it early.
This lump is much much smaller than the one I found in my left breast. It's about the size of a small pebble. Not even the size of a pea yet! I plan to have surgery in the morning, and still work Friday night. My husband says I'm nuts and won't feel like working. I say I'll be fine!!! We'll see. The station, as usual, is totally supportive!
Until next time - God bless you all!!!
