I cannot believe that we have less than a month until the HEB Slimdown Showdown finale!
This has been one amazing roller coaster ride.
Thinking back to day one, I honestly have to say that I did not think I would get the results that I have seen, nor did I realize how much of an emotional battle this would be, but I overcame with help from friends, family and the members of Haven for Hope.
In the beginning, I mentioned in my blog Courage how the members of H4H inspired me to get help. Little did I know they would be encouraging me along the way.
During the past couple of months, I had ups and downs. There were days where I felt so motivated that nothing could stop me from getting to the gym or maintaining a healthier lifestyle; then there were the days where I felt quite the opposite.
I remember a day here at work where I was walking towards the gym with my head down. Random thoughts were going through my head and I kept thinking to myself, "Why am I doing this?" and "Do I really need to work out today?" Well, as I walked to the gym, I passed through our courtyard and was stopped by a member. He asked where I was going and I said, "To the gym." He noticed how I was dragging and the look on my face and said, “Michael, you can do this. I believe in you.” I shook his hand, said thank you and made my way to the gym.
I suited up to work out and sat down to digest what he had just said to me. What I realized is that the words he said to me are words that I have said to many members here at H4H. Little did I know, those words would return to bring life back into me.
As days went by, members would come up to me and say, “You’re our champ,” and "You’re a winner to us” and my favorite, “We believe in you.” These words I replayed on days I didn’t feel like I could make it. I am so grateful to serve such a courageous and inspiring people.
Now, the question many have asked, “How much weight have you lost?”
At first, I wanted to keep it a secret, but as time went by I began share it with others. I found that when I disclosed my numbers it gave others motivation to begin to live a healthier lifestyle. June 15th I weighed in at 290lbs and today, Sept 13th I weighed in at 245lbs, totaling 45lbs lost.
In 3 months, with the support of many, I have managed to lose more than I have ever attempted to lose in my life.
This was done the natural way. No fad diets, no cutting carbs, no skipping meals and no meal replacement shakes. I did this the old fashioned way - pure hard work and dedication.
I would like to say thank you to those who have supported me along the way, by commenting and sharing the blogs. Thank you to those of you who continuously give me words of encouragement, to H-E-B for the life-changing opportunity, and last - but not least - to the members of Haven for Hope. If I had never seen the courage you all displayed I would have never come this far. You all continue, regardless of challenges and adversities that come your way.
You all make me proud!
