If you’re suffering from back pain, how can you tell if it’s related to a problem with your kidneys?

According to the Mayo Clinic, many people don’t realize where their kidneys are located, so they often associate back pain in their lower back or flank with their kidneys. The Mayo Clinic states that your kidneys are located higher in your back, right under your lower ribs.

However, a pain in that area doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong with your kidneys.

The Mayo Clinic says that pain in your upper back, along with other symptoms, could increase the chances that the pain is signaling a kidney issue.

Some symptoms the Mayo Clinic says to look for include:

-         Dull, one-side pain on one side of your upper back

-         Fever

-         Urinary symptoms

If you are concerned about the pain, you should see your doctor.
