A woman is dead and two people were taken to the hospital after a two-alarm apartment fire on the city’s Northwest Side, San Antonio fire officials said.
The fire happened Monday night in the 4100 block of Parkdale Street at the Ashler Oaks apartment complex.
San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood said the fire department received multiple calls around 10:09 p.m. about the large blaze.
Once crews arrived, they saw large flames on the second and third floors of a 12-unit apartment building, Hood said.
Crews started immediately rescuing people, Hood said. There were reports of people hanging out of windows in the back of the building.
Hood said while firefighters were trying to get to the second floor, they broke a window and saw a woman on her bed. There was then a large flash, Hood said, so firefighters were unable to get in and save her.

Hood said one person jumped out of their window. That person was taken to University Hospital in priority one condition. He said another person was taken to the hospital with minor cuts and burns.
The chief said four of the units were destroyed due to the heavy flames. He said there was very limited access for crews to extinguish the fire, but they worked extremely aggressive.
Hood said eight adults and two children have been displaced from their homes. The fire department is working with apartment management to get them placed.
Hood said the arson team is investigating the fire. Right now, officials aren't sure where the fire originated.
