1 dead, several injured after carjacking, crash on Loop 410

EB Loop 410 lanes near Callaghan have reopened following investigation

SAN ANTONIO – One person is dead and several people are injured following a carjacking, chase and crash on the city's West Side, San Antonio police said Friday.

According to police, the car was stolen at Westfield and Westward.

The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 5100 block of Northwest Loop 410.

Police said the stolen car's low jack system eventually led authorities to the stolen vehicle on Highway 90.

The Eagle helicopter followed the car as it entered the highway near Summit Parkway and the vehicle eventually jumped a median before hitting a white pick-up truck.

Police said the driver of the stolen vehicle died as a result of the crash. Three other people inside the stolen vehicle were also seriously injured and taken to Methodist Hospital.

The two people from the pickup truck were taken to University Hospital and not seriously hurt, police said.

At one point overnight, Loop 410 in the area was closed in both directions. Eastbound Loop 410 before Callaghan Road was closed while SAPD worked their investigation. Traffic was diverted to the access road at Evers Road but the lanes have since reopened.
