Fuji women's cruiser bikes recalled
Agency: Bike frame can break, posing fall hazard
CPSC
Advanced Sports Inc. has announced a recall of its Fuji Saratoga Women's Bicycles after it was determined that the bike's frame can break in the center of the downtube during use, causing the rider to lose control and fall.
In a news release, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the company is aware of 12 reports of the bicycle frames breaking, including two injuries, a head laceration requiring 20 stitches and scrapes and bruises.
The agency said the recall involves Fuji women's cruiser bicycles with serial numbers beginning with ICFJ7, ICFJ8, ICFJ9, ICFJ10 and ICFJ11.
About 10,500 bikes were sold in specialty bicycle stores nationwide from November 2007 to December 2011, for $300 to $500.
Consumers were urged to stop riding the recalled bikes immediately and return them to any authorized Fuji Bicycle dealer for a free replacement frame.
Those seeking more information about the recall should call Advanced Sports at 888-286-6263.
