Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect in the murder of Moses Michael Jimenez.
Jesse Jimenez doesn't mince words when discussing the police investigation into the murder of his 24-year-old nephew, who left behind a 5-year-old daughter.
"Most people are going to think it was just another Mexican kid, a drug user," said Jimenez Monday evening. "He wasn't that to me. He was my nephew, he was my mother's grandson, he was that little girl's dad. We saw a different side of him."
On February 16, Moses Jimenez was outside at an apartment complex in the 1100 block of San Fernando on San Antonio's west side when two men came up and shot him and another man. Jimenez was shot five times in the back and died at the scene. The other man was shot once in the arm.
"The guy that was wounded knows who they are and that's why I was kind of put off that they haven't done anything," said Jesse Jimenez.
Jimenez said that because he's not immediate next of kin, SAPD detectives haven't shared much information with him. He said his 89-year-old mother raised his nephew, who called Jesse Dad, having never met his real one.
"I feel that because he and his mom were estranged that nobody's really sticking up for him now and I didn't want his life just to end that way," he said. "Those guys that killed him didn't have a right to do that."
He has mixed feelings about the Crime Stoppers reward but knows that money often speaks louder than any police officer can.
"It was discouraging for me to have to come to money to have people do the right thing but if that's what it takes then that'll be good," he said.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP.
