Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man last year.
MaryLou Perez fought back the tears as she talked about her son, Jake Arredondo, who was killed last September 1 outside his apartment.
"We talked everyday, probably twenty times a day," said Perez. "It's just been really hard. A lot of sadness and I don't think it'll ever go away."
Arredondo was shot in the common area of the Crescent Oaks apartments at 5380 Medical about 4 p.m..
"I think because it was out in the open, I do think that people saw a lot," said Perez. "I just wish they would come forward."
Arredondo moved out on his own at 18 years old but his mother said, aside from frequent phone calls, he was always stopping by at home, often to help his dad with landscaping projects around the house.
"My son was a good kid," his mother said. "He loved a lot and he gave a lot and I don't understand why someone would want to hurt him that bad. I know I'll never have my son back. I just want closure."
The suspect is described as a black male between 5'9" and 6', weighing 200 pounds. He was wearing a black shirt, black jean shorts and a black doo rag at the time.
People with information can call Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP (7867).
