Teen Killed In Suspected DWI Crash

SAN ANTONIO -- An 18-year-old woman was killed late Sunday in a two-vehicle crash on the city's East Side.

Police said that Mercedes Sherwood, of Mico, pulled out of an apartment complex parking lot at East Commerce and Coca Cola at 10 p.m., when she was broadsided by an Oldsmobile that had the right of way.

Sherwood died at the scene.

Michael Alvillo, the driver of the other vehicle, was hospitalized.

Despite having the right of way, Alvillo is expected to be charged with intoxication manslaughter, police said.
