11 students, 1 adult injured in school bus crash
Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD bus rear ended in front of Steele High School
A school bus crash Tuesday morning in Cibolo sent 11 students and one adult to a hospital with minor injuries, all in the same giant ambulance.
According to Schertz EMS Director Dudley Wait, the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District bus was rear-ended in front of Steele High School at approximately 8 a.m.
The rest of the children on the bus were not hurt.
After contacting the students' parents, Cibolo Fire Department and Schertz EMS crews loaded the 11 injured students and one adult onto one mass casualty evacuation ambulance.
"This was the first time it was used and it performed flawlessly," Wait said. "This allowed Schertz EMS to move 11 patients in one vehicle with the staff from one ambulance instead of utilizing six ambulances."
The Schertz EMS Ambus transported all of the injured in one trip to Northeast Methodist Hospital. The Ambus is capable of carrying 20 patients at a time.
