A terror suspect linked to the Sept. 11 attacks in the United States might receive legal aid from the fiancee of an imprisoned terrorist.

French lawyer Isabelle Coutant-Peyre said Thursday that she will defend Zacarias Moussaoui's rights as a French citizen. Coutant-Peyre is the fiancee of the terrorist known as Carlos the Jackal. Zacarias Moussaoui, Terrorism Suspect

Moussaoui (pictured, right) faces conspiracy charges in the first indictment directly linked to the September suicide hijackings. He already has a lawyer in the United States.

The French Moroccan sought flight lessons in Minnesota a month before the hijackings, sparking investigators' suspicions.

Two months ago, Coutant-Peyre announced that she would marry Carlos the Jackal. He's serving a life sentence in France for the 1975 murders of two French secret agents and an alleged informer.

Coutant-Peyre suggested that Moussaoui has been made a scapegoat in the investigation. She has not yet spoken with her client -- nor does she know where he is being held. The lawyer said that Moussaoui's mother asked her to represent her son.
