Price Tag For Boy's Heart Transplant Doubles

The family of a 7-year-old boy from Mexico who are in San Antonio in hopes of getting him a heart transplant received some bad news Monday when a hospital in Dallas doubled the price for the procedure.

The price tag went up just days after the Mexican state of Coahuila told the family that it would pay $500,000 for the procedure, which the family was initially quoted by the hospital.

"He's dying," said Christian Saucedo, the mother of Adrian Saucedo, who has been fighting for his life for several weeks at Children's Methodist Hospital. "And now they want more."

Christian Saucedo said that her only hope is a hospital in Pittsburgh that requires $500,000 for the procedure.

But time may not be on Adrian's side. With each passing day, his condition worsens.

"He says that he tired, and that's what we don't want to hear," his mother said.

Christian Saucedo must make a big decision soon -- whether to remain in San Antonio and wait for the transplant or go back to Mexico.

But she fears the worst if she goes back to her native country.

A fund has been set up to raise money in hopes of getting Adrian a transplant.

Checks can be made out to:

The Adrian Flores-Saucedo Trustfund
C/O Transplant for Children
7550 IH-10 West, Suite 104
San Antonio, TX 78229
