SAN ANTONIO -

A dozen people escaped a fire that destroyed a home and an SUV early Tuesday morning on the South Side, San Antonio fire officials say.

The fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. at a home on Sams Drive. Fire officials said the home was fully engulfed in flames upon their arrival.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and said all 12 people inside got out safe. One woman was checked by paramedics and a firefighter was treated after getting soot in his eye.

Firefighters were initially concerned about electrical lines hanging down but later determined they were not live. An official cause of the fire has not been released.
