State Attorney General Sues S.A. Contractor

Bowman Accused Of Deceptive Trade

POSTED: 10:44 a.m. CST April 3, 2002

The Texas Attorney General's office filed a lawsuit recently against a San Antonio contractor accused of leaving behind unfinished home improvement projects.

The lawsuit, filed on March 28, alleges that Tony Bowman (pictured, left) was involved in deceptive trade practices when he took downpayments but failed to complete jobs for seven local consumers.

One of consumers in the lawsuit, Tim Cassler, said that he paid Bowman $3,000 for bathroom repair work the contractor never finished.

"All they did was demolish the bathroom," Cassler told KSAT 12 News in an interview. "Nobody's been here since."

Six weeks ago, 12 On Your Side's consumer investigator Marilyn Mortiz approached Bowman and asked him if he was going to return Cassler's money. As of Tuesday, Cassler said he was still waiting for his money.

Geraldine Kinard, another consumer named in the lawsuit, said she paid $21,000 for a remodeling job that should have been finished six months ago.

"It's wrong to take money from good-hearted people who trusted you and not finish the job," she told KSAT 12 News.

Kinard said Bowman, who according to the lawsuit is not licensed and fails to get permits, has returned some of her money.

Bowman, was not available for comment Tuesday, but in an interview with Moritz in February, the contractor blamed his troubles on the Sept. 11 terrorist bombings.
