Quizno's Employee Killed Outside Restaurant

POSTED: Sunday, June 10, 2007
UPDATED: 9:51 am CDT June 11, 2007

Police said they're looking for a group that beat up and shot a Quizno's employee to death Saturday night on the city's Northside.

A group of five men attacked Nathan Ramirez while he was taking trash to a Dumpster at 11 p.m. outside a Quizno's in the 8400 block of Broadway.

A store manager grabbed a gun and fired a shot in the air to scare the attackers, police said.

Afterward, one of the men shot Ramirez with a 9 mm pistol and the group fled the scene, police said.

The same group may have robbed Ramirez Friday, police said.

Ramirez's family said they believe one of the attackers was the boyfriend of a girl Ramirez met over the Internet and moved in with.

The family said the girl's boyfriend recently had been released from jail and became angry after Ramirez borrowed his clothes.

Ramirez's family said Ramirez wasn't involved in any illegal activity that would have provoked an attack.

"He didn't deserve this," Melissa Krueger, Ramirez's sister, said. "He wasn't gang-related, he wasn't into drugs, (and) he wasn't a bully. He was a sensitive, sweet guy."

The Quizno's where Ramirez died remained closed the day after his death.

Police said they believe the five men left the Quizno's in a black, two-door Ford Bronco.

No arrests had been made on Sunday night.
