Grand Jury Indicts S.A. Contractors

Bowmans Face Felony Theft Charges

POSTED: 9:56 a.m. CDT April 17, 2002

A Bexar County grand jury Tuesday indicted a father and son remodeling team who promised to build dreams but left behind many trails of unfinished work and unhappy customers.

E.B. Bowman and his son, Tony Bowman (pictured, left), were charged with felony theft after the pair allegedly bilked 18 consumers out of more than $200,000.

Bexar County sheriff deputies arrested the two men at their North Side homes Tuesday evening. They are being held in the Bexar County jail on $100,000 bond each.

According to the indictment, the Bowmans left behind unfinished work. They went bankrupt twice, under the company names Classic Exteriors and Generations.

In an interview February with 12 On Your Side consumer investigator Marilyn Moritz, Tony Bowman blamed his business-related problems on the Sept. 11 terrorist bombings.

Among the 18 unhappy customers was Ruby Holland, who said she paid the Bowmans nearly $40,000 in 1997 to remodel the bath and master bedroom. Holland said the work was never finished.

Brian Heyne, who said he paid the Bowman's $10,000 for unfinished work, said "I believe there's a higher profit margin in fraud than in hard work."
