SAN ANTONIO -- Authorities found the body of a 29-year-old woman in a creek Wednesday afternoon after a 12-hour search.
Rescue crews said they recovered the body of Christine Marie French, a San Antonio resident, beneath the waters of Helotes Creek just after 3 p.m.
French and a 24-year-old man, who authorities said were out on their first date, were driving along Scenic Loop Road near Menchaca at 3:30 a.m. when their Ford Focus went down a hill and straight into a low-water crossing, Bexar County sheriff's officials said.
The car was swept away by 5 feet of water that was rushing over the bridge, sheriff's officials said.
Officials said French was knocked into the fast-moving creek by debris in the water while the man yelled for help and managed to hold onto a tree.
Nearby residents and sheriff's officials were able to rescue the man.
French's body was found within the 2.5-mile area where teams of emergency responders had been searching since she went missing.
The vehicle was found about a quarter-mile downstream, officials said.
