SAN ANTONIO -- More than two dozen Mirasol homeowners and two task force members assigned to address problems at the troubled housing project walked out of a meeting Wednesday night.
Frustration set in for residents after they apparently didn't like what they heard from the Mirasol Task Force regarding home inspections and the hiring of a project manager.
Residents gathered outside the offices of the San Antonio Housing Authority to vent their frustrations over the way their problems are being handled.
"What they've been doing for the last 13 weeks is not fair," said a Mirasol homeowner.
Although SAHA has approved a buy-back option with the U.S. Housing and Urban Development, homeowners said it's not a fair plan.
"It's confusing," said Catrine Jacobo, a Mirasol homeowner. "You have to go through hoops in order to do their plan, and you still end up on the short end of the stick."
Homeowners have complained that their homes are unhealthy and were poorly built.
"I've been real tired," said Jacqueline Lucio, a Mirasol homeowner. "I have headaches. I cough up phlegm in the morning."
Despite an empty room, the task force went on with its meeting.
Task force Chairman Gordon Hartman said that residents need to work with the task force to find a viable solution.
"If we continue to have people not wanting to work with us, then we're going to get nowhere," Hartman said. "The only way we can get true closure on this is to continue to make the progress we've already made and expand upon that."
But homeowners said they've had enough and plan to address their problems to the City Council at its regularly scheduled meeting Thursday.
The homeowners then plan to meeting with an attorney Saturday to discuss legal options.
