Geovany Rivera, 23, Named In Warrant

UPDATED: 8:38 pm CST January 14, 2008

A former video game store manager was named a person of interest in the slaying of an EB Games store manager, an affidavit stated.

Geovany Rivera, 23, was originally named a suspect in the slaying of Amber Belken, 25, in November but police needed more evidence and a search warrant was issued in place of the arrest warrant, the affidavit stated.

Police used the search warrant to collect evidence for DNA testing, the affidavit stated. Results of the tests are pending.

The affidavit stated that a witness told police that Rivera confessed to him about the slaying. Rivera described how Belken let him into the store on Jan. 29, 2007, and he later sneaked up behind her and strangled her with a plastic bag.

Rivera stole more than $1,000 in cash, video game consoles and video games, the affidavit stated.

The witness told police that Rivera suggested robbing the store in the 7300 block of San Pedro Avenue because he knew it didn't have security cameras, the affidavit stated. The witness and Rivera were former employees of Game Stop, a video game store that is owned by EB Games.

Police collected a hair sample from the scene that didn't belong to Belken and took a hair sample from Rivera when he issued a statement to police, the affidavit stated. Receipts from similar items Rivera traded in to Game Stop stores were also obtained by police.

Rivera told police that he knew Amber from manager meetings the company held and that his fingerprints were all over the store because he had previously returned games to that store, the affidavit stated.

EB Games has issued a $95,000 reward for information leading to an arrest of Belken's killer.
