SAN ANTONIO -- A 59-year-old man shot his 25-year-old son late Thursday on the city's far East Side.Police said James Belcher Jr. shot his son, David Belcher, after he tried to break into his father's home in the 5900 block of Autumn Lake at 10 p.m.The two had gotten into a fight earlier in the evening, police said.The younger Belcher, who police said is bipolar and was high on drugs, apparently wanted to break into the home to attack his brother, police said.David Belcher was shot in the head and was transported to Brooke Army Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. His condition was unknown.Police said they don't plan on filing charges against the elder Belcher."It appears it may have been self-defense," said Sgt. Marcus Booth of the San Antonio Police Department.
