SAN ANTONIO -- A plan to turn an area school into an all-female school has its detractors.
The San Antonio Independent School District is proposing turning Horace Mann Academy into an all-female school and is expected to vote on the measure next week, but parents at a Tuesday evening meeting are asking the board to reconsider.
"It would be very bad to close this school down and feed our kids into other schools that have lower attendance and lower academics than Horace Mann Academy," parent Josette Gonzales said.
If the district has its way, they will close six schools beginning next school year. The district's superintendent said he wasn't convinced at Tuesday's meeting.
"I don't know that we heard anything that would change our recommendation," Robert Duron said. "Our board understands the difficulty of this decision and I'm going to share with them that I did have this meeting, but we are continuing with our recommendation."
The board is expected to vote on the proposal Monday.
