SAN ANTONIO -- The fight to keep Travis Elementary School in a student-serving capacity is continuing.
After the San Antonio Independent School Board voted to close Travis, along with five other schools, parents of current Travis students are hoping the campus will be used as a college preparatory academy for elementary students.
"We feel this will be able to solve a lot of our problems by grooming them when they are young and into their middle and high school," parent Gene Garcia said.
Although the board did vote to close the six facilities on Feb. 25, they also agreed to leave the schools in district control and forgo selling the buildings off.
The district has not yet said how it plans to use the shuttered schools, only agreeing that they would be used in an educational capacity.
