UPDATED: Robbery Suspect Leads Police On Chase

A man accused of robbing three fast-food restaurant on the city's north side led police on a high-speed chase late Wednesday evening.

The man's alleged crime spree began before 10 p.m. at a McDonald's on the 7000 block of San Pedro Road before moving to a Wendy's at Loop 410 and Perrin Beitel Road. The San Antonio Police Department's helicopter then spotted the suspect's vehicle at a Whataburger at Interstate 35 and Rittiman Road, interrupting the robbery.

The suspect then led police on a chase that reached speeds of 80 mph, according to police. He then sped off onto Interstate 37 and exited at Southcross Road. Police said at one point, the man rammed a police car while backing up and taking off again. The officer in the vehicle was not injured.

The chase led to the 800 block of Avondale Road, where police found the man hiding behind a neighbor's shed.

As of Thursday morning, the suspect is facing three charges of aggravated robbery and evading arrest.
