SAN ANTONIO -- A teenage father is facing the death penalty as the capital murder trial in connection with the death of his infant daughter began Monday.
Jerry Crisp, 19, was alone with his daughter Jayden on April 25, 2005, when he called paramedics to revive the child.
Firefighter Sara Wueste testified that Crisp said she had fallen and had received bruises on her body while he was out of town.
"He also stated that she had fallen off the changing table once that day, and that a few days prior, she had a bruise on her cheek and just woke up the morning of the incident with some bruises on her chest," Wueste said.
Crisp was later arrested and charged with capital murder.
Paramedics also testified Monday that the baby was cold when they arrived, had no vital signs and had bruises on her body.
If convicted, Crisp faces the death penalty. His trial is expected to continue Tuesday.
